 FAQs

  • Audio has to first be processed which takes a lot of time, which is why the app has Night Mode. Just launch night mode before you sleep and everything should be ready before you wake up.

    Audio processing will detect any repeating content that you’ve already listened to. Repeat content includes ads, intros, outros, disclaimers, episode preview, call to actions, etc.

  • While listening to the episode, if the podcast player enters the timestamps of repeat content, a chime will play. You can then do the following to skip to the end of that repeat content.

    1. Knock three times on the back of your phone (even if it’s locked and in your pocket)

    2. Reach into your pocket and touch the volume button on your phone

    3. Change the volume on your AirPods/headphones

    4. A UI button will show up that you can tap

  • There’s a complicated tradeoff between podcasters making money and listeners having a good experience.

    Instead of automatically blocking podcast ads, you’re given the choice to skip them. You’re likely already doing it by tapping the +30s button – this app just makes it incredibly easy to skip in-audio ads.

    I do not plan on charging money for any ad skipping features.

  • Speech speed speeds up slow talkers and slows down fast talkers. I built this because I like listening to 2.7X speed and sometimes I have to slow down to 2.2X if one of the speakers talks too fast.

    Once audio is processed, the player screen will have a toggle to enable speech speed.

  • Just like repeat content spotting except no chime will play. Just trust that when any music is playing in the background that you can skip to the end of it using knock, volume, or UI.

    Useful for skipping unique intros and some ads in interview-style podcasts. Less useful for sotry-telling podcast with lots of music.

  • Once audio is processed, you can then search for words within it. Useful if the episode talks about three topics but you only care about one of them.

  • Plato has whatever is publicly available through iTunes (2 million+ shows). Some shows that are network exclusives are not available.

    Private feed import is supported.

  • It’s free during beta. On release it will likely be freemium with a very generous “free” tier.

    I do not plan on charging money for any ad skipping features.

  • The core of the app is stable, but there’s still a few bugs and missing features.

    Users that are okay with some bugs and are willing to give feedback will likely get into the beta. Users that require a super stable app will be contacted closer to the release date.
